Our main activity centres on the monthly meetings when we get together in New Kilpatrick Parish Church New Halls for the illustrated lecture given by the visiting expert lecturer. The range of topics covers decorative and fine art in its widest sense and can often introduce us to things that we had always wished that we knew more about.
The lectures, on the second Monday in the month, begin at 2.00pm and normally finish by 3.15. Tea or coffee is available in the hall before the lecture, providing an opportunity for informal discussion with the Lecturer and to meet up with friends.
In addition to the lectures we organise Study Days, and visits to museums, art galleries and exhibitions.
Previous visits have been made by members to:-
- Kinross House, a late seventeenth century house overlooking Loch Leven; built by Sir William Bruce, architect to King Charles II
- Ardkinglass House, on the shores of Loch Fyne, the home of the Noble family and designed by Sir Robert Lorimer
- Benmore Botanic Gardens, Argyll
- Floors Castle, Roxburghshire, the ancestral home of the 11th Duke of Roxburghe
- The textile conservation unit of the University of Glasgow
- Abbotsford House, Melrose, the home of Sir Walter Scott
- Scone Palace, the Crowning Place of Scottish Kings, and the original home of the Stone of Scone
We expect to arrange visits again and these will be found on our Visits page
